Chania and Venetian Port

The Venetian Port of Chania, due to its strategic location, developed as a commercial and maritime center. The 21-meter-high Venetian Lighthouse was built on a natural rock and stands out for its architecture, which at night is illuminated by the lights of the shops and presents a spectacular image.

The Maritime Museum of Crete, founded in 1973 at the entrance to Firkas Fortress, preserves the maritime heritage of the island. Its collection includes over 2,500 exhibits, such as relics, maps and a replica of a Minoan merchant ship.

The Firka Fortress, at the entrance to the harbor, was built for the defense of the city and served as a barracks and prison during the Ottoman occupation. Today, it is a historical monument, commemorating the union of Crete with Greece in 1913.

The city of Chania has a significant number of beds in hotels of all categories. There are also pensions, hostels and rooms for rent, for all budgets and tastes. There are many restaurants, some with foreign cuisine, taverns, fish taverns, ouzo, patisseries, cafes, pubs, etc.

Balos Lagoon in Kissamos

Balos stands out for its crystal clear turquoise waters, its wild natural landscape and its exotic beauty. During the summer, it attracts a large number of visitors, especially in July and August. For a more peaceful experience, it is recommended to visit early in the morning  or during the less touristy periods.
